Marriage system in Gilgit Baltistan. Here i will tell you about the process of marriage in ruler areas in Gilgit. As there are different process in different culture to get marry, her i describe the marriage process/system in Gilgit Baltistan.
Therefore the first process of marriage in Gilgit Baltistan is going notables including parents of a boy to girls home to discuss and get permission about the relationship between boy and girl same time girl parents ask girl about the relation that either she is agreed or not some time girls refuse due to many reasons. once girl and her family agreed then start second process were after discussed both families select a date for formal engagement process.
In the day of engagement the parents including some close family members go to girl home and presenting gifts including Gold rings and clothes etc and then handshakes both families each other likewise here completed the engagement process.
in some areas after engagement girl and boy can meet each other and discuss about their future planning and boy can goes to girls home but some areas its restricted to meet and discuss before marriage. mostly after engagement its takes one to three or four year to get marry while in some cases get marry with in four to five month here is no any restriction depend on preparation of both families for marriage.
once the time comes to get marry then groom parents go to bride home and discuss with her parents to finalize the date here after agreement of both families decided a single date for marriage and then start marriage ceremony accordingly. Once start marriage ceremony its continued for almost four days which i will describe here day wise activities as below.
First day of Marriage:
After fixe the date groom and bride family invites their relatives to attain the marriage ceremony therefor very close family members of both families started to arrived marriage homes where taking foods together and enjoying in music whole the day and night likewise the first day of marriage is ended, here very close and limited family members attained who are living far-flung areas are arrived in advance.
Second day of Marriage:
This is the day where started marriage actually and all villagers and relative come to congratulates both in groom and bride homes that's call (Rasum-e-Tawo). All invitees take tea with desi butter which is call (Eshpere) and put their gifts on it. Arranged different foods for these invitees and the same time call desi band to entertain all these invitees.
After dinner get to gather and enjoy in desi band dancing on their turnover. After windup this musical event most of the invitees going back to their home on midnight and likewise the second day also closed. below are some picture of groom with his friends on the day of (Rasum-e-Tawo.
Third day of Marriage:
In this day boy and girl became a groom and bride actually and groom go to bride home with BARAT while bride family presenting different dishes to BARAT after heaving NIKA, BARAT take lunch with bride family at bride home and come back to groom home here bride BARAT also formed including close family members and they come with bride to groom home once bride see off from her home then the marriage ceremony closed at bride home and her rest of relatives going back to their homes. Both BARATs arrived at groom home while here grooms family arrange different dishes for bride BARAT after having dinner BARAT and grooms family enjoying in desi musical band and after close the musical event BARAT and other invitees going back to their homes almost here marriage activities are closed at grooms home at this night.
Forth day of Marriage:
This is the last day of marriage ceremony where bride brings gifts and presenting to the close family members of groom and groom also distribute gifts among his family. finally a very short event heaving here where bride and groom making desi birds which purpose is know that either bride and groom can make birds or not. Around five to six member of bride including her best friend stayed till this event after completing this event groom family arrange lunch for rest of this gust and having lunch all these gust going back to their homes to left bride here in groom home. likewise marriage process in Gilgit Baltistan is being completed.
Foods use in Marriage
Mostly used Mattoon chickens and rice in dinner and lunch for all in these four days along with sweets like Halwa, Suya and construed etc.
